About Rapido Trimarans

The Vision Behind Rapido

Passion is what drives genuine innovation. For Paul Koch, co-founder of Rapido Trimarans, that lifelong passion has always been trimarans. Over several decades, Paul has stood at the absolute forefront of the global multihull industry, systematically transforming what was once a niche corner of sailing into a worldwide movement for high-end performance cruising.

Paul’s pioneering journey began in 1986 with OSTAC Yachts (Ocean Sailing Trimarans and Catamarans). From 1994 to 2010, he went on to lead Corsair Marine, where he introduced breakthrough composite technologies and production methods that fundamentally reshaped the international trimaran market. His relentless drive and clear architectural vision helped bring high-performance multihulls into the mainstream for passionate sailors around the world.

Yet, Paul saw an unfulfilled gap in the market: a true, ocean-crossing trimaran that was remarkably fast, incredibly safe, owner-operated, and entirely manageable by just two people. This vision gave birth to the flagship Rapido 60, the world’s best ocean-cruising trimaran. To turn this ambitious blueprint into a reality, Paul with his partner, Richard Eyre, engaged the services of Pete Melvin, co-founder of the world-renowned naval architecture firm Morrelli & Melvin Design & Engineering.

Our Mission

“To build the world’s best ocean-cruising trimarans."

The Designers – Morrelli & Melvin

To achieve a mission of this scale, Rapido partnered exclusively with Morrelli & Melvin, the global leaders in high-performance multihulls. Celebrated for their legendary work on America’s Cup campaigns and some of the world’s fastest record-breaking yachts, their technical expertise ensures every single Rapido trimaran is an absolute masterpiece of modern marine engineering.

Morrelli & Melvin deploy a suite of highly advanced aerospace tools to rigorously design and optimize every physical parameter of the platform:

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD): Advanced virtual wind and water tunnel modeling used to map, analyze, and maximize total hull efficiency below the waterline.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Comprehensive structural stress mapping across the carbon fiber matrix to guarantee extreme safety margins and ultimate structural integrity.

Velocity Prediction Programs (VPP): Highly sophisticated algorithms used to accurately calculate and forecast real-world sailing performance profiles across all wind speeds and true angles.

This perfect marriage of science, technology, and real-world blue water experience gives Rapido Trimarans their legendary, unmatched combination of speed, safety, and effortless handling. Learn more about their technology lifecycle here.

The Builder – Triac Composites

Every single Rapido trimaran is built exclusively by Triac Composites, an elite manufacturing facility co-founded in Vietnam by Paul Koch and Richard Eyre in 2014. While Triac’s core focus is building the Rapido line, their unmatched technical expertise in advanced composite structures extends across a premium industrial portfolio worldwide.

Why Advanced Composites?

Advanced composites are the defining material of modern high-performance engineering, offering distinct material advantages over traditional mediums:

1.

Ultra-Lightweight Profile: Dramatically lowers displacement to foster higher ocean speeds, exceptional power-to-weight ratios, and overall energy efficiency.

2.

Immense Structural Strength: High strength-to-weight ratios deliver deep durability and structural peace of mind when encountering heavy blue water sea states.

3.

Total Corrosion Resistance: Inherently immune to oxidation, wood rot, and water degradation, making it the ideal choice for hostile marine environments.

4.

Geometrical Versatility: Can be precisely molded into highly complex, hydrodynamically optimized aerodynamic shapes that traditional metals cannot achieve.

These rare structural qualities make advanced carbon composites absolutely vital not only for elite luxury yachts, but across critical modern industries including aerospace, defense, specialized transit, and high-stakes mining.

A Diverse Engineering Portfolio

Triac Composites has successfully delivered high-spec technical infrastructure around the globe, spanning structural projects such as:

  1. Industrial composite plugs and master tooling molds for commercial, defense, and recreational vessels.
  2. High-load carbon engineering components, including specialized C-Foils, T-Foils, and racing masts.
  3. Advanced structural lightweight superstructures for European passenger ferries.
  4. Fully outsourced composite vessel manufacturing for international leisure and utility brands.
  5. Heavy-duty composite mining extraction equipment designed for volatile environments.
  6. Custom architectural structural facades for contemporary commercial developments.
  7. Precision-molded composite mass transit train interiors.
