The T-rudder improves a boat’s performance and safety in several important ways, particularly at speeds of 10 knots or higher:
- Better Balance (Trim)
The T-rudder can help achieve the desired trim (pitch) angle for the float/hull hydrodynamics. This is especially important for the C-foils, as the T-rudder directly affects their angle of attack and the amount of lift they produce, boosting efficiency. - Smoother Ride (Pitch Stability)
By reducing the boat’s up-and-down motion (pitch), the T-rudder stabilises the flow circulation of water and air around the foils and sails respectively. This steady flow generally improves their efficiency, ultimately enhancing the yacht’s overall performance.

Safety Benefits
In addition to performance, T-rudders also add a layer of safety, particularly during high-speed maneuvers, such as bearing-away in strong winds or when broad-reaching.
The T-rudder helps keep the boat’s bow from diving into the water and ensures the rudder stays submerged for better control.
In summary, the T-rudder is a key feature that boosts both performance and safety, making it especially valuable in challenging conditions.
Where are the T-Rudders built for Rapido?
Note: T-rudders for all Rapido models – as well as other high load parts such as masts, C foils, dagger boards, beams etc – are all designed by Morrelli Melvin for Rapido boats and built in house by Triac Composites. They are made from prepreg carbon fiber and cured in Triac’s autoclave.
