The Sint Marteen Yacht Club has just held its inaugural Annual Caribbean Multihull Challenge (CMC) – and the Rapido 60 trimaran, Ineffable, has picked up a special prize (note, the Rapido 60 is built exclusively by Triac Composites).
In his wrap up of the three-day Caribbean Multihull Challenge (CMC) which concluded on 10 February 2019, Herb McCormick reported that, “The day’s final special honor went to Stephen Glyn Bourne, the skipper of the Rapido 60 trimaran, Ineffable, who was feted as Furthest Traveled to the CMC; after all, Ineffable’s homeport is Hong Kong!”
Stephen posted on Rapido Trimaran’s Facebook page that Ineffable “had a great race and made podium 3rd overall. Very happy!
“It was such a fun regatta with big courses between islands and culminating in the ‘Round Island which was 40 miles. At the top of the Island, we had 20 knots true and were hitting 15 knots upwind with a full rig… Yeeha!
“We missed beating R-Six by just six seconds which was nice as they have been sailing the boat for a few years. So, our team really did well. Proud of them!
“Perhaps the nicest time was taking the youth team out where they all steered a course, trimmed sails and then had to get a top speed in two minutes.
“Two girls trashed the guys with a top of 11.6 knots which is not bad in a 9 knot breeze! Needless to say there was a lot of banter about that!”
In McCormick’s article, he concludes that “The final day of racing on Sunday was (excellent and was) conducted in the best breeze of the regatta, a steady 15-18 knots of fresh easterly trades with gusts into the 20s…
“It was a… fitting conclusion to the first Caribbean Multihull Challenge.
“And following it, race organizers announced dates for the second running of the CMC, to take place from February 14-16, 2020.
“The bar has been set high after the inaugural event. It will be nothing but fun trying to raise it.”
From everyone at Rapido Trimarans and Triac Composites, congratulations to Stephen Bourne and his Ineffable crew on another very fine performance. Also, congratulations to the organisers for their vision to establish the Caribbean Multihull Challenge as a key annual event on the multihull’s calendar!
